manual signature link is inserting a link in your posts to look like a link that members with 50 posts can add to to their  profile links.

it is a form of links spam.

Some older members are grandfathered in because they registered before the signature limit was put in place.

Well I think hats a Good point of not giving link on signature in the earlier stage as what I have seen that many of the webmasters just com to post only links in their posts. They don't have any attachment with the forum as many of us think about it..
