Search engines are the medium through which people search the web for any information they need.
A search engine is highly complex software which searches the web for new web pages. Whenever it finds a new hyperlink, it automatically adds it to the index. Search engines are also commonly referred to as “spiders”. Spiders visit the websites from time to time to check for updated content.
Most search engines are usually automatic, but in rare cases human intervention is required.
Your website can be submitted free of cost to the search engines and they will find all the pages on your site as long as there are active hyperlinks for them to follow.

The primary difference between a search engine and a search directory is that a directory is compiled by a real person. Frequently the site owner will submit a short description of the site together with its URL to the directory compiler to be included. Directories are arranged into categories to make it easier to find what you are looking for.
When you submit your site to a directory, you choose the category you want your site to be included in. A reviewer then checks to ensure that your site is in the most suitable category. Another difference between a search engine and a directory is that whereas a search engine could list every individual page in your web site, a directory will generally only contain a single entry covering your whole site. Directories are compiled by real people and are categorized. A reviewer checks to ensure your site is in the best category which helps to promote your site better.
If you already have a website, you can update it using the latest web design techniques and SEO methods.  Use of latest web design technologies will help you to stay ahead of your competitors but make sure that you choose quality web design services from the best web design firm.

1.Your content should always be 'quality content', this will build reader loyalty.
2.Submit your website to many website directories.
3.Exchange website banners and links with other websites, for example you advertise another website and they advertise yours (make sure to use '_blank' target links, this will open the other website in a new tab, therefore the user isn't leaving your page).
